Vererans, We Honor You

This post is dedicated to the brave men and women who fought or are fighting for our great Republic. Today is Veterans Day. A day to honor and salute the Veterans who fought for the freedom of this great nation. Veterans give the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedom and security of all Americans and today Kentucky Preppers Network honors all Veterans and Active Duty Military members. To all the Veterans, thank you for what you did. Your actions were not in vain and without you America might not be what it is today.

Veteran’s Day Tribute

When America had an urgent need,
These brave ones raised a hand;
No hesitation held them back;
They were proud to take a stand.

They left their friends and family;
They gave up normal life;
To serve their country and their God,
They plowed into the strife.

They fought for freedom and for peace
On strange and foreign shores;
Some lost new friends; some lost their lives
In long and brutal wars.

Other veterans answered a call
To support the ones who fought;
Their country had requirements for
The essential skills they brought.

We salute each and every one of them,
The noble and the brave,
The ones still with us here today,
And those who rest in a grave.

So here’s to our country’s heroes;
They’re a cut above the rest;
Let’s give the honor that is due
To our country’s very best.

Optimism in a Time of Pessimism

Mayberry posted yesterday about how he felt it was nearly time for him to bug out. Things are looking worse and the assault on our freedoms and liberties is in full swing. I agree with Mayberry although I think there are a lot of things that we can be very happy about. Sure the government is still going full speed ahead at destroying our economy, but the center and cause of the crisis is the Federal Reserve.

Nobody could've imagined back in February when Ron Paul introduced his audit the FED bill (HR 1207) that today we would have 279 co-sponsors in the house. That's 64% of the house! The House of Representatives is the main representing body of the American people and this shows that more and more people are waking up and taking action. This is a total bipartisan effort with Democrats and Republicans coming together for a common cause. This is not the result of corporate lobbyists, or special interests groups. This is the result of the PEOPLE taking a stand and demanding transparency and accountability. This my friends, is something everyone should be ECSTATIC about!

Not only is HR 1207 chugging along; the sister bill in the Senate (S 604) already has 20 co-sponsors! That's 20% of the Senate behind auditing the Federal Reserve. Again this is all due to American's speaking out and standing up for ourselves. A successful audit of the Federal Reserve will expose the crimes they have committed and the damage they are doing. Americans need a good reality check and this is a start. If everyone knew without a doubt that we don't need the Federal Reserve it would be abolished tomorrow.

Rand Paul is also going to be running for the Kentucky Senate seat. Jim Bunning has officially dropped out of the race which means Rand is going to run (unofficially). Rand is a great candidate and would be a wonderful asset to Kentucky and the whole country. Electing Rand to the Senate, sets the stage for others like him to run and the more we have that represent the people the better off we are. Not to mention how scared it will make these career politicians who only represent the corporations that pay for them.

These are just a couple examples of things to be happy about. The general population is getting fed up with the boom and bust cycles that the Federal Reserve creates, and the previously mentioned bills are proof of this. The alternative media is exploding in terms of popularity and not only is Rand Paul running for office but there are a lot of other liberty minded candidates that plan on running in 2010.

There seem to also be more and more people waking up to the corrupt government and getting tired of these big corporations getting bailouts while average American's are losing their jobs and homes. Wall Street is getting precedent over Main Street and this is not how things should be. While I think a time will come when we must bug out or there might even be a time when blood must be shed on both sides. But as long as the "system" still exists, we must keep fighting within the system. We're prepping for the worst, yet hoping for the best; but more than that we must work our asses off to ensure the best.

Get Over Your Partisan Politics

One thing that irks me the most is partisan politics. The Republicans are unhappy with the current administration's out of control spending and increasing the size of the government. But where was the opposition when Bush was tripling the size of the Federal Government? Bush ran large budget deficits and spent like crazy, but the Republicans loved it when it was within their party. When Bush was in office the Democrats sounded much like the Republicans do today.

But where is the change? Obama ran on a platform of change, and he is exactly right, we need to change our government dramatically. But no change has occurred. The Republicans should be HAPPY with the current administration for multiple reasons. The Republicans supported the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the saber rattling at Iran. Obama "pledged" to end the wars and called them "unwinnable." He was right! But the wars go on today and not only that they have been expanded! So why aren't the Republicans supportive of the current administration? No policies have been changed since Obama was sworn into office.

Bush started the policy of warrantless wiretapping, torture, and the endless wars. Obama has done nothing but continue these policies so why the outcry? Shouldn't the Republicans be happy? The point of this is to illustrate that we no longer have a two party system. The two party system is used to distract the average American from the big picture...that BOTH parties are corrupt and need major reform. The government and the media keep us occupied, bickering between one another about petty issues while they stomp on our rights, liberties, and the Constitution.

Our current two party system is like a one party system with two heads. Both parties support the same policies. It's like having two cupcakes, both vanilla with vanilla icing but one has red food coloring and one has blue. No real choice between the two, other than the color. Bottom line if you're attending Tea Parties and getting active in the political process GREAT! If you're doing it only because the Democrats are in office and you just want a Republican majority then you are doing it for the WRONG reasons. Open your eyes and see that both parties are flawed, and both parties support the status quo.

Real reform comes when we elect candidates that come from outside the political spectrum. Candidates like Rand Paul here in Kentucky, Peter Schiff in Connecticut, Adam Kokesh in New Mexico, RJ Harris in Oklahoma, and many others. Congradulations Kentucky!

We did it! All 6 Kentucky Congressmen have now co-sponsored HR 1207! Thanks to the hard work of all the Kentucky liberty and freedom fighters all of our Congressman are now fully behind Ron Paul's historic piece of legislation. This is a great victory for the state and this bill is the first major step at exposing the Federal Reserve for what they are; an unconstitutional, private, secret central bank.

As of July 14th Rep. Harold Rogers and Rep. John Yarmuth are now officially co-sponsoring the bill. This bill is bi-partisan; as our state shows, it's not about Republicans or Democrats because the Federal Reserve effects all of our lives. It's about our Congressman's duty to provide answers to the American People's questions and this is how they're going to start.

Now that all of our Congressman have signed on please take a minute to call, or email them to extend your appreciation for them co-sponsoring the bill. This doesn't mean the fight is over, we must keep pressure on the Senate to pass the senate version of HR 1207, S 604. Sen. Jim Bunning is behind S 604 but we need to focus on getting Sen. Mitch McConnell behind it.

Congressman To Call and Thank:
Congressman Ed Whitfield [R] 1st District
Congressman Brett Guthrie [R] 2nd District
Congressman John Yarmuth [D] 3rd District
Congressman Geoff Davis [R] 4th District
Congressman Harold Rogers [R] 5th District
Congressman Ben Chandler [D] 6th District

Another One Down...Two to Go!

I posted on June 5, 2009 about Rep. Ed Whitfield co-sponsoring HR 1207. I think that the Kentucky Representatives who are signing onto HR 1207 is a direct result of our hard work and the hard work off all the liberty and freedom groups and organizations all over the state.

The newest co-sponsor is Representative Ben Chandler. I think part of the reason Rep. Chandler has signed on is because of the fact that everyone is pissed he voted for cap and trade. Yes it is great that he is co-sponsoring this legendary piece of legislation, but we haven't and won't forget that he was the ONLY Kentucky Congressman to vote FOR cap and trade.

Now there are a total of 4 Kentucky Representatives that have co-sponsored the bill. Below is a list the reps who have signed on and the reps who haven't. Keep the pressure on if your rep hasn't co-sponsored this yet. Over half of congress has signed onto this bill and we need more. BTW be sure to contact your Senators about S. 604 the sister bill to HR 1207 that's in the senate. This is all in an effort to bring more accountability and transparency to the Federal Reserve.

Congressman To Call and Thank:
Congressman Ed Whitfield [R] 1st District
Congressman Brett Guthrie [R] 2nd District
Congressman Geoff Davis [R] 4th District
Congressman Ben Chandler [D] 6th District

Congressman To Keep the Pressure On:

Congressman John Yarmuth [D] 3rd District

Reader Tip & KPN Info

Reader Johnathan sent me a tip about HR 1444 the Congressional Commission on Civic Service Act. The language of this bill says that they will look at setting up mandatory national service. This directly violates the Constitution, and Johnathan has made an email template for you to send to your representatives. The template, and more information is available at the Kentucky Preppers Network Forums. I added a new Political Activist section and will be adding contact information for all the Representatives, Senators and Legislators in Kentucky.

I have posted some good stuff over at the forums. Feel free to post comments, tips, or even questions of your own. The good ones will get posted to the blog. The forum will act as a database for tons of prepper info in all subjects. And the Activist sub-forum will be a one stop place to get all your activist info.

In an effort to bring more diversification to the blog I will be posting some stuff from other survival blogs and prepper networks that deal with gardening and self-sufficiency. This is something that I personally only know what I have read. There are others out there in the prepper networks that have some great posts dealing with their gardens and I'll try to get some of those up for our readers who garden and would like more info on that subject and the subject of moving to self sufficiency.

Finally...Rep. Ed Whitfield Co-Sponsors HR 1207!

I posted on May 8, 2009 about Rep. Brett Guthrie co-sponsoring HR 1207. He was the first Congressman from Kentucky to sign onto this historical piece of legislation. And thanks to the calls, emails, and faxes from myself, the readers, and activists from all across the state we now have two more Kentucky Congressman co-sponsoring the bill including my Representative Ed Whitfield! I made tons of calls and sent countless faxes and emails to him and the pressure finally got to be too much!

We also have Representative Geoff Davis that has co-sponsored the bill, and have a total of 3 of 6 Kentucky Congressman that have co-sponsored the bill. Keep the pressure on the remaining Congressman to sign onto this piece of legislation. Please contact these Representatives that have already co-sponsored the bill and thank them for their support. And keep the pressure on the ones who haven't co-sponsored so that they will sign on. 40% of congress has already pledged their support to the bill. This has a real chance of getting to the Senate.

Congressman To Call and Thank:
Congressman Ed Whitfield [R] 1st District
Congressman Brett Guthrie [R] 2nd District
Congressman Geoff Davis [R] 4th District

Congressman To Keep the Pressure On:

Congressman John Yarmuth [D] 3rd District

Libertarianism vs. Statism

Libertarianism vs. Statism
by Jacob G. Hornberger

Pity the poor Republicans. Having suffered massive losses in the political process, they are now in search of a “new message” that they hope will restore them to political power. Their problem, however, is that given their unwavering commitment to socialist, interventionist, and imperial programs, the likelihood is that voters will see through the charade of a “new message.”

Consider, for example, Republicans’ post-Bush era return to their tried-and-true mantra favoring “free enterprise, private property, and limited government.” Doesn’t that mantra ring hollow given the fact that Republicans are just as fiercely committed to socialistic and interventionist programs as Democrats are?

Indeed, when one considers all the federal socialist and interventionist programs that have come into existence during the past several decades, how many do Republicans oppose? Answer: None. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, the drug war, subsidies, education grants, bailouts, SBA loans, and on and on, not to mention the multitudes of federal welfare-state, regulatory departments and agencies. The Departments of Labor, Agriculture, Energy, Education, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, DEA, SEC, ICE, IRS, and on and on.

Republicans support and embrace every one of them. At most, they’ll call for “reform” or for getting rid of “waste, fraud, and abuse.” But with the exception of Ron Paul, a Republican who is actually libertarian by philosophy, hardly ever will you see a Republican calling for the repeal or abolition of any of those federal programs, departments, or agencies.

Of course, it used to work. Voters would focus on the free-enterprise mantra and forget that Republicans favored the socialistic and interventionist programs that violated the mantra.

Not anymore, however. Because now there are the libertarians to contend with. Libertarians not only preach the “free enterprise, private property, limited government” mantra, they also call for the abolition and repeal, not the improvement or reform, of all those socialistic and interventionist programs favored by both Republicans and Democrats. Libertarians are the real deal.

In the foreign-policy arena, what do Republicans have to offer, especially given that President Obama has co-opted their occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and their war-on-terrorism infringements on civil liberties? Republicans, like Democrats, continue to support the existence of a U.S. Empire, continue to deny that the Empire’s presence and actions abroad produce the threat of terrorist blowback, continue to support the international drug war, and continue to call for ever-increasing infringements on civil liberties. Moreover, they continue to deny that U.S. personnel torture while, at the same time, continue defending torture because they say it works. And they continue defending the alternative kangaroo judicial system for trying accused terrorists that the Pentagon set up to compete against the constitutional system established by the Framers.

Meanwhile, federal spending continues unabated, with Obama likely to end up spending more federal money than even Bush and the Republicans did. Of course, now that Obama, rather than Bush, is doing the borrowing, taxing, spending, and inflating, Republicans are railing against it all, which they never did during the 8 years of the Bush era.

Yet, when you ask Republicans how federal spending can be reduced while, at the same time, maintaining the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and the entire U.S. Empire abroad (troops in more than 100 countries) and all the socialistic and interventionist programs here at home, Republicans just get angry, frustrated, and silent.

That’s one reason they are so uncomfortable with libertarians. We remind them of what they aren’t — consistent defenders of moral principles, free markets, private property, the Constitution, and a limited-government republic.

In difficult times, people tend to look to scapegoats, and Republicans and Democrats are no exceptions. While Republicans rail against illegal aliens, drug dealers, terrorists, and Muslims, Democrats rail against speculators, greedy people, the rich, and businessmen. Neither Republicans nor Democrats have the courage or fortitude to confront the truth and accept responsibility for it — that it is they and their socialist, interventionist, and imperial programs, not the scapegoats, that are responsible for the morass in which our nation finds itself.

While Republicans and Democrats wage wars against their scapegoats, the real war is between libertarianism and statism. Despite the massive control that Republicans and Democrats still have on the mindsets, lives, and fortunes of the American people, I’m still putting my money on libertarianism to prevail. For if people decide they want morality, prosperity, harmony, and freedom, then there is only one way to go — libertarianism. That, of course, necessitates a rejection of the statism embraced by those pitiful Republicans and, well, for that matter, those pitiful Democrats as well.

Congressman Brett Guthrie Co-Sponsers H.R. 1207!

This is awesome news. I made a post a couple weeks back about H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. At that time there were 88 co-sponsors on the bill. As of today there are 140+ co-sponsors and we FINALLY have a Kentucky representative that has signed on, Congressman Brett Guthrie representing the 2nd District in Kentucky.

I called Congressman Guthrie's DC office this morning as soon as I heard the news to extend my thanks to him for stepping up for more transparency in the Federal Reserve. I don't live in the 2nd District, I'm in the 1st, but we can still thank him for stepping up to represent the great state of Kentucky. If you get a free minute today or sometime next week, give his office a call and tell them you appreciate him co-sponsoring H.R. 1207. His DC office number is (202) 225-3501. You can also email him by clicking here. I have been calling, emailing, and faxing Ed Whitfield, my Representative and he finally sent me a letter saying that he would probably vote for it, but still thought we "needed" the FED...MALARKEY! Anyways, we need more co-sponsors, and more from Kentucky. Keep the pressure on your Reps!

HR 1207: Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009

HR 1207 (full text here) was introduced by Congressman Ron Paul and is a groundbreaking piece of legislation. If passed, it would give Congress the power to audit the Federal Reserve. I'm sure most of you know the Federal Reserve is a private central bank that controls and regulates our currency. The FED is made up of unelected officials that work in total secrecy, and since it's establishment in 1913 has never been audited. Bloomberg reported on March 31st that the total amount of the bailouts has nearly exceeded the country's Gross Domestic Product. Most of this money has been monetized by the FED. The FED is the root cause of the countries financial problems and HR 1207 is a huge step in actually fixing our economic problems.

The bill is currently in the House Committee on Financial Services and getting past this Committee is one of the biggest hurdles. There are currently 88 co-sponsors but unfortunately none of Kentucky's representatives have jumped on the bandwagon, and that's where we come in. We need to call, email, and fax our representatives and let them know their constitutes support HR 1207. You can go here to get telephone numbers, email address, and fax numbers of all the Kentucky representatives.

Below are links to two PDF files that are fax ready to send to your Representative's office. You can send two FREE faxes per day from www.faxzero.com Upload the PDF and fax both fliers to every office your Representative has.

Next I have a link to a letter template that I typed up that you can print out and mail via snail mail, or email them to your Representatives.

April 15th BG Tea Party Picture Post

Update: I added Rand Paul's speech below. Give it a watch.

Greetings everyone, I returned from the Tea Party just a few hours ago and it was a HUGE success!! We rallied at Fountain Square in Bowling Green, KY and had around 800 people show up! The whole park was packed. Rand Paul spoke for a few minutes, and other individuals spoke over the course of an hour. Starbucks was there giving away free coffee, and there was two news crews there recording and getting interviews of the attendees. I think the rally went great and the message was clear; we're tired of both parties supporting big government. There was also a guy that handed out 300+ copies of The Obama Deception.

How to Catch Wild Pigs

I want to take this time to say that this is not my personal blog. While I do post my opinion and view points on issues, this blog is for all Kentucky Preppers or Liberty minded Kentuckians. Steve, a reader, friend, and fellow Kentuckian sent me this little story today and suggested that I post it. I am more than happy to post reader submitted pieces, and would like to see more reader involvement. This blog is built around the Preparedness minded Patriots in Kentucky and across the country. If anyone has an article, story, or just something you need to get off your chest, feel free to send it to me and I will be sure it gets posted. The readers and fellow Preppers are who make this blog worth while. The purpose of this is to bring the Patriot and Preppers together for a common cause. I am honored to have readers like Steve who take time out of their day to read the blog. Thanks a lot Steve! And now to the story:

There was a professor in a large college that had some exchange
students in the class.. One day while the class was in the lab the
Prof noticed one young man an exchange student) who kept rubbing his
back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student
told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while
fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow
his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a
strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.

The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding
a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs
find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are
used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place
where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they
begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence.
They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you
have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The
pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to
eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.'

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and
around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to
eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten
how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their
captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees
happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward
Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form
of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned
income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant
crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, free medical, etc. while we
continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.

One should always remember 'There is no such thing as a free Lunch!
Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than
you can do it yourself.

This is a great little analogy and it's very true. The government has been incrementally taking our freedoms away so slowly that most don't even notice. Eventually we will be totally enslaved and wake up one morning and think, "What happened?" This is similar to the analogy of boiling a frog in water. You start it in cold water, slowly heat it up, and eventually boil it to death without the frog even knowing it. This is exactly what's happening to America and it's up to us to stop it.

Get Involved to Restore the Constitution

How did Americans go from the smartest and most informed to the stupidest and most ill-informed? -Alex Jones

Tonight but I read a post on Survivalist Boards by "MT Patriot" that really made me think. Basically what he says is that it's great to prep, and he himself is prepared for the coming collapse, but the thing that we need to be focusing on is PREVENTING this economic collapse and global takeover. If we all get involved in our local & state governments and stay informed, we can stop this.

Things will continue to get worse with the economy and our government if people continue what they're doing right now. As long as the majority stays self absorbed, and doesn't give a crap about what's going on in their country then we will continue to be enslaved and taken over. The state sovereignty resolutions are a great start, but we have to keep fighting. We need to elect Senators and Representatives like Ron Paul & Rand Paul. We need to write our local state representatives and legislatures. We need to call, email, do whatever it takes to get exactly how we feel across to them. The local ones are the ones who will be more willing to speak with you and listen to you. Keep a weekly list of news articles and documents that you feel are important, and mail them to all your local state representatives every week.

The masses need to shed their apathy and quit denying and doubting the inevitable and obvious. Washington is filled with crooks that WE ELECTED. We have the power to stop this and end what the government is doing. We need to focus on stopping this beast before it destroys our nation. It will take the masses to come together as a nation and peacefully work to stop them. It still is OUR government. Without us they wouldn't be able to exist. We're the ones paying for all this and we have a right to know what they're doing and to limit their powers. The Constitution was set up for this, and we just need to bring them back within Constitutional powers. Our freedom, liberty, and sovereignty are all at risk. If we don't stop this all our futures are at risk.

I'm not saying don't prep, I think preps are great and I have my own but honestly hope I never have to use them when I don't want to. This movement is growing very fast and I think we still have a fighting chance at defeating this. Check out this Jim Rogers video where he was interviewed on an Australian News network.

And Now For Stimulus #2

So yesterday the Senate passed President Obama's Stimulus plan. This is the second of I'm sure many more stimulus bills that the government will frantically push through legislation in order to "save" the economy. It basically boils down to the fact that you can't get out of debt with MORE DEBT. The government works similar to an individual. If a person is in debt, they can't get out of debt by borrowing more money! Sadly, this is the best thing Washington can come up with. We have a $10 Trillion+ budget deficit so we're borrowing more money, and printing more money in order to fix this economy. Well I have news for these guys in Washington, it's not going to work. All our government is doing is imploding the economy, and the inevitable outcome is massive inflation.

Obama talks a lot about job creation, but it's obvious he has no clue how to create jobs, I honestly doubt that anyone in Washington even realizes how the government works. The government is funded through taxpayers, and taxpayers alone. Obama can't hire $4 million people and pay them with government money when we're losing hundreds of thousands of jobs a day. The government tax revenue is shrinking rapidly because laid off workers don't pay income tax and people who aren't spending their money aren't paying sales tax. This means less money into the government and more borrowing and inflation to finance this empire that we have.

Inflation happens when a country's currency gets devalued. The Federal Reserve is creating money out of thin air and pumping it into the economy, which is devaluing everyone else's currency. This money is printed with nothing of value backing it, other than a promise by the Federal Reserve. We haven't really seen inflation yet in the United States, although some prices are going up at steady paces, but it's mainly due to other factors. Once inflation hits everyone will know it. Prices will skyrocket making even the so called rich unable to afford even the basic commodities. Food and energy prices will soar along with other vital goods needed for survival. THIS is the main reason why I prep. I don't worry as much about natural or similar type disasters (although it is good to be prepared for them), my main fear is what's going to happen with our economy. I know my job is at risk as consumer spending gets lower and lower. In fact, most all of our jobs are at risk, and there's a good chance we won't be able to replace them.

SubscribeShare/Save/Bookmark

The point is I realize that your "must have" goods are going to be scarce, and if you're able to buy them they will be VERY expensive. Having a food supply should be at the top of everyone's list. This will keep you independent, and out of the clutches of government and FEMA aid. I hope that things don't happen as fast as some predict but part of me realizes that we only have a few months before things get really bad so food is the most important thing to own right now. A storable food supply is an unemployment insurance policy, or a SHTF insurance policy. Do whatever you can, sell the spare vehicle, cash out your IRA/Pension/Retirement, pull your money out of the stock market, and make the move to investing in your own survival. Buy all the food you can and store it up with the money that's going to be worthless soon anyway..
